ITOSA – a European project for activating seniors
Our Foundation is one of the partners in the European project Innovative Techniques of Seniors Activation (ITOSA), which aims to activate seniors – both in their local communities and online. The project is led by Fundacja Mapa Pasji from Kraków, with whom we are now carrying out our second European initiative focused on older people!
ITOSA (Innovative Techniques of Seniors Activation) is an international project bringing together organisations from EU Member States and Serbia. It will run from 2022 to 2025 under the Erasmus+ programme.

The project focuses on “innovative methods of activating seniors”, and its goal is to raise the competences of seniors and of educators working with older people, as well as to support educational and cultural institutions in their local communities in this area.
Seven organisations from six countries are taking part in ITOSA: Mapa Pasji and FRPCZ from Poland, Residenze per Anziani Città di Treviso (ISRAA) from Italy, Inštitut Antona Trstenjaka from Slovenia, Emphasys Centre from Cyprus, InterArtFoundation from Bulgaria and Centar Za Društveno ekonomski Razvoj from Serbia.
Together we are developing methods and tools, and the project partners are sharing locally used techniques that help seniors pass on their knowledge – such as familiarity with local history, natural and cultural heritage and traditions, or skills like storytelling, cooperating with neighbours or doing household tasks that younger people find increasingly difficult.
We want seniors to gain new competences not only through courses, but also by being active in their local communities. As part of the project, a selected group of seniors will therefore meet their peers from five other European countries to share their experiences. At least 15 seniors and 30 educators will take part in the workshops we organise.
The project will produce the following tools and materials, available in 7 languages (English and the languages of the project participants):
- An online portal for seniors and educators, containing the full set of educational materials developed during the project;
- A set of interactive e-learning courses for educators and trainers of older people;
- A handbook based on good practices from all the countries participating in the project.
To promote our activities, we will, among other things, organise five international webinars and try to reach local and national media with press releases.
Within the ITOSA project, our Foundation is responsible for two key areas:
- We are leading the creation of the online portal for seniors and educators;
- We play a key role in providing the project partners with an e-learning platform that will host courses for educators and trainers of older people.
